Modyrn Timez

Collaboration with WYRDOS (Sarah Smalik, Sara Tilley, Jamie Tognazzini)
Situated in a former recording studio at a defunct radio station, this performative installation obscures prison cell with zoo enclosure, conservation and condemnation, for the last living members of the endangered species, Charlieus Chaplinus. Prompted by a dated newspaper clipping found on-site detailing Chaplin’s final silent film, Modern Times (1936), the interactive work addresses a voyeurism of political/economic strife across a glitched time/space continuum.
Presented in conjunction with Wreck City, a curatorial collective that focuses on site-specific experimental art exhibitions in alternative spaces. We would like to acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts.
